Waters - The Dearborn

River conditions make this a very fickle river to float and fish. Although when you hit the conditions right, you are sure to have a memorable day. The Dearborn is one of these “guides days off” rivers. It is a 2 hour drive to the put in and is nearly a 20 mile float. The Dearborn flows through the former hunting grounds of the Blackfeet Indians. It twists and turns through a spectacular gorge with sheer walls and unusual rock formations alternating between sections of shallow riffles and deep pools. If you do not have the time to commit to a 5 day Smith river trip, this is a very good alternative. When you have a cloudy day streamer fishing for HUGE browns can be phenomenal. With out the clouds we often go to the old fall back “hopper dropper” set up. You can hardly drift this set up by a Rainbow or a Cutty without having it attacked. Since
