Andrew T. Hanson

AndrewAndrew T. Hanson was born and raised in nearby Butte Montana. Although he is from a blue color mining town fishing and business has ran deep though his veins from the start. At the age of nine he was hired on as the Butte Country club’s official pest abatement officer.

While running his trapp line and fishing Andrew noticed all the lost golf balls in the creeks bottom, so with out further ado Andrew set up shop every afternoon on the side of the 5th tee box selling reclaimed golf balls to passing golfers. One of Andrew’s early mentors was Evel Kneivel. Evel taught Andrew to be firm on his prices and to keep all competitive ball dealers away by offering the best product followed with excellent service.

As Andrew grew with his entrepreneurial sprit he soon found himself at home in the early 1990’s with The Complete Fly Fisher. His tenure here has been a ground floor up performance. While starting with mowing the lawns and shuttling vehicles he soon found himself as head guide, manager and eventually partner. During this duration Andrew spent winters attending Carroll College, guiding hunters and working construction. He has a great mind for people and has been The Fly Fishers leading manager.

Some of his greatest attributes amongst caring for the Fly Fishers guests has been his carasmatic nature in which he interacts and cares for the family of guides and employees of The Complete Fly Fisher. He has brought many great additions including the Rock Creek and Smith river permits. His most recent attribute has been the remodel and updating of the Lodge and cabins. Although Andrew has very good “phone and selling skills” you can rest assure that his words are solid.

Steve Gallus

SteveSteve was born and raised in Butte and started floating and fly fishing the Big Hole with his father and four older brothers at age six. Under the tutelage of their father, the Gallus boys learned the value of clean water, healthy rivers and catch and release fly fishing from an early age.

The only time Steve has lived away from the Big Hole was to attend the University of Portland in Oregon. He graduated in 1995 with a B.A. and earned Phi Alpha Theta Honors through his study of History. Steve also holds a certificate from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. After college Steve took the advice of his lifetime friend and schoolmate, Andrew Hanson, and asked David Decker for a job at the Complete Fly Fisher. Steve worked as a maintenance man, breakfast cook, office boy, and guide apprentice starting in 1996.

Influenced by his parents and older brother Chris, Steve has always been deeply interested with government and politics. In 1998 at the age of 25 Steve filed to challenge an incumbent in the Montana House of Representatives. He won that first race and served six years in the Montana House before running for the Montana Senate. Steve was recently re-elected to the Senate and serves on the Senate Finance and Claims Committee and the Senate Committee on Fish and Wildlife.

Steve married Jennifer Hensley in 2004; they share a passion for policy, government and hunting large fish with fly rods. Steve and Jennifer enjoy chasing trout in the Rocky Mountain West. They also enjoy salt water fishing in British Columbia and most recently Costa Rica.

David Decker

DavidGrandpa handed me a fly rod when I was 8 and told me that this would be something that I could do until I was 80. He fished with a dry fly until he was 87. The trout steams of Michigan tutored me until I was ready to chase trout fishing to Montana where I worked at then owned the Complete Fly Fisher for almost thirty years. I tied flies commercially for most of my life and have always been intrigued with not only the fish but what they eat and how it ought to look.

My angling adventures have taken me across the globe to remarkable places casting a fly in fresh and salt water for numerous species. Fly fishing is a part of my soul that I cannot change, even a little.

As a guide and outfitter for many years teaching not only fly casting but the intricacies of angling to fly fishers of every ability level has been a trait of my career as when you have something so special it is hard not to share it.

An avid conservationist, I have served on many committees dedicated to water quality, angling access and education as well as outfitter issues.

More recently, living in Park City Utah, I still fish when I can and take that wonderful trip north to Montana, never often enough, and get on planes headed to where the fish are wild and the scenery takes your breath away.

Until death do us part, this fly rod and I will be joined. Fishing is going, no more, no less.
