Waters - Yellowstone
The Yellowstone River is the longest river in Montana. Throughout its entire length from its beginning in Yellow Stone National Park to its confluence with the Missouri river in North Dakota, the river is free of any major dams and offers classic fly fishing. Pre run off in late April and early May can produce some attractive dry fly fishing if you hit the fabled “mothers day caddis hatch”. Once the run off subsides (Mid July) the Yellowstone fishes as consistent as any other western river, you may catch the tail end of the stonefly hatches but will be certain to nail the hopper season. Once Autumn stains the valley the browns become very active to streamers. With out hesitation the “stone” should be fished.
