The Big Hole Valley

Dry fly sipping brown trout coupled with outstanding service, each day is tailor made to fit the needs of our guests.

Quite a view

Trout are often feeding in the channel just feet away from our dining table, bald eagles are often sighted as are deer and moose.

It’s our pleasure…

Your stay with us starts when we pick you up at the Butte airport, followed by a beautiful drive along the Continental Divide to our Lodge situated on the banks of the Big Hole River. The afternoon is yours to enjoy; prepare your equipment, obtain licenses, get outfitted, have a Troutslayer Ale or take a nap. The day is completed with an exquisite meal in a freestone river setting that is unsurpassed.

The perfect week

Your days of fishing will start with breakfast to order, meeting your guide and casting instruction, if desired. The day is spent with your guide, floating, and wading (for guests that want this) and always on a blue ribbon trophy section of water. Your picnic lunch is served riverside and the rest of the day can be as long or as short as your guide recommends and you desire.

And more than fishing

After your day of angling, you can expect first rate pampering and excellent cuisine. Many guests adjourn to the deck to experience crimson sunsets behind the often snowy Goat Peak, while sharing stories of the day.

Teaching

Fly fishing is an art learned at any age and enjoyed by any skill level. Our guides love to teach and they truly get a kick out of getting you over riffles rich with fish ready to pounce on a fly. Often a day starts on the lawn with a casting exercise and a good week has anglers of all ages, men and women alike.

Guiding

The rivers, streams and tributaries on the Big Hole and surrounding rivers offer an almost unlimited variety of fishing experiences. We often wander off from the boat to examine bugs, read the water and learn how to bump a trailing fly off of a deep trough.

Results

A typical day on the river will reward you with a lot of fish, and big ones too! You’ll have a blast with your guide who will know just what they’re taking and just how to present it. We fish lots of dry fly drifts but we always let the conditions and the waters dictate the appropriate approach.

All of the attention to fine dining, drink and lodging doesn’t mean we take our fishing lightly! You will fish with the most experienced guides that have ever haunted the rivers of Montana. Our “gillies” eat, sleep, and breathe fishing, and are intimately familiar with where the trophies live and what they like to eat. This is what our guides do; this is not a short stop between college and the board room, they are the longtime pros.  We keep in mind this is your vacation time and we know how valuable it is.

The Big Hole Valley is a fishing heaven.
